My name is Jinsung Bang, and I am a student with a wide range of extracurricular interests spanning music, athletics, writing, and wellness. I am particularly drawn to tea service, studying under a master artisan and approaching tea as a cultural practice rooted in craftsmanship, mindfulness, and place. My interest in ottchil grew from a lifelong closeness to nature; as I gathered fragments of the natural world I wished to preserve, I was drawn to lacquer as one of humanity’s oldest and most enduring ways to protect form, memory, and time. Through travels to rural villages, I create ottchil works inspired by traditional tea culture and the landscapes I encounter. Alongside this, I pursue cello, basketball, and cross country with steady commitment, while using screenwriting to shape my experiences into narrative. Together, these pursuits reflect a curiosity-driven approach to learning and a balance between physical discipline, creative expression, and cultural exploration.
